tirunaraiyoor is a beautiful city with plenty of lotus ponds where live the pairs of swans. They remove the petals to drink honey with joy. There are plenty of such fields and ponds. There resides emberumAn who removed the curse of Siva in whose hand a kapAla was stuck which could not removed by anyone else in the three worlds. BagavAn poured the sweat of His tirumArbu and the foul smelling kapAla left his hand. Oh! Mind! Seek Him and worship Him—says AzhwAr.

Oh! Mind! See the emberumAn who discharged terrible arrows at rAvaNa and caused the death of the asura. The ten heads scattered over the ground like the pearls are scattered by the kAvEri river through the streets of tirunaraiyoor.

In the fields and forests of tirunaraiyoor there are plantain trees and jack fruit trees which bear fat bananas and honey-laden jackfruits. Here resides emberumAn, the younger brother of balarAma who ate all the curds, butter along with the three worlds.

vaLaikoNDa vaNNattan pin tOnral—balarAma is white like SanKa while kriShNa is dark like rain cloud.

tirunaraiyoor is a city rich by having tall buildings closely built on whose tops flags fly flapping in the wind spreading themselves to cover the sky. Here resides emberumAn who played kuDakkoottu in the streets of AyarpADi, lifted the gOvardhana mountain to save the cattle and men; who wear ‘kurai kazhal’. AzhwAr asks his mind to meditate on His tiruvaDi.

In tirunaraiyoor the waves of ponni river brings in her current logs of ahil and sandal trees, gold, gems, pearls etc. and scatter them everywhere. Here resides emberumAn who hid the sun with His chakrAyudha during BArata yuddha to enable arjuna to kill jayadratha.

periyavAchchAn piLLai raises a question here—It is said the chakrAyudha is thousand times more brilliant than the sun. Then to say that this chakra hid the sun and the world became dark is impossible. He himself explains it thus—Though the sun is very bright we can see him with our naked eyes. But it is impossible to see chakrAyudha which is thousand times more effulgent with our naked eyes. Hence it is only opt to say the sun was hid and there was darkness.

Oh! Mind! Seek His tiruvaDi who has periya pirATTi in His tirumArbu. He resides in tirunaraiyoor, where the river ponni brings in her current gold, claws of lion, tusks of elephants etc. and deposit them on the banks.

ariyuhirum puzhaikkaimA karikkODum—In the forests the elephants and lions have a fight. The elephants lose their tusks and the lions their claws. They are pushed by the river when she flows through the mountains and forests and bring them along with gold to this city.

Oh! Mind! you should meditate Him who is tuzhAi muDiyan, dEva dEvan, kArvaNNan. He resides in tirunaraiyoor where the fields are full of red paddy crops, sugarcane and lotus flowers.

The farmers grow sugarcane in the fields. When they are fully grown they cut the crop leaving the stubs and sow red paddy in the same field. Both the crops grow, the red paddy with beautiful fat cobs and the sugarcane sky high. In between the red lotuses grow as weeds. Thus all the crops grow simultaneously making the fields look beautiful.

AzhwAr asks his mind to seek the tiruvaDi of emberumAn who resides in tirunaraiyoor which is beautiful with abundant areca nut trees that bear red ripe fruits, green raw fruits and white pearl-like flowers. It is the emberumAn who resides in tiru maNimADakkOyil as of He is well established there like a firm mountain.

In tirunaraiyoor resides emberumAn who is worshipped by both Siva and brahma along with the other dEvas. Thus He stands here revealing His swAmitva to all. In this divya dESa the vaidika brAhmaNas perform yAgas as prescribed in the vEdas the smoke of which rise high hiding the sky. AzhwAr asks his mind to worship Him for He is not only the swAmi of Siva and others but of me too.

tirumangai AzhwAr (vayal mangai naharALan) has sung on emberumAn these beautiful ten pASuras. He sings on the swAmi of tirunaraiyoor, a city beautiful with moon-like swans in lotus ponds. Those who read these pASuras will go to paramapada and become one of the nitya sooris.

tiN kaLaha madil—kaLaha means lime solution. Hence it seems the forts cemented by kaLaha. tirujnAna sambandar says in dEvAram ‘kaLahappurisai kavinAr sAram’. He uses the word kaLaham to mean lime solution. AzhwAr has used the words ‘tiNkaLaham’ ‘vaNkaLaham’ ‘paNhaL aham and ‘viNhaL ahattu’ to rhyme giving in each case a different meaning.
